NAT AND PORT-FORWARDING ON VYOS ROUTER

NAT AND PORT-FORWARDING ON VYOS ROUTER
In the face of IPV4 extinction, NAT(Network Address Translation) has come to the rescue. Nat remaps one ip address space into another by changing the information in the header of the ip packet. It is also very similar to IP masquerading, where a companies entire private ip address range can be hidden behind a single public ip address I.e the ip address on the router facing the internet.

In this guide “NAT AND PORT FORWARDING ON VYOS ROUTER”, we will use vyos router to masquerade our entire private ip address. This singular action will also give us access to the internet.

HOW TO CONFIGURE ROUTER ON A STICK USING VYOS ROUTER

HOW TO CONFIGURE ROUTER ON A STICK USING VYOS ROUTER

The term router on a stick is often used to refer to a network setup where a router and a switch are connected using an 802.1q trunk link.

This term will not be complete without talking about vlan(virtual lans).

A vlan is a logical grouping of devices in a network or simply a subnetwork that is used to repartition a network for improved management and traffic control.

To better understand this, let us use an example. Lets say you have a network made up of data and voice(VOIP). You can choose to divide your network into two groups or subnetworks(vlans) where the first vlan say vlan1 routes data traffic while the second vlan say vlan2 routes voice traffic.

Setting Up A Share on Samba4 Active Directory Domain Controller

Setting Up A Share on Samba4 Active Directory Domain Controller
In previous guides, we learnt how to install samba4 on a new debian server. We also learnt how to manage(add users, computers, GPO e.t.c) our samba4 active directory server using rsat on windows.

In this guide, we will do some more by enabling  file sharing capabilities on samba4 active directory controller. This guide will aim to enable file sharing on the domain controller, much like on a windows domain controller.

Note: This may not be the best practice. I feel that it will be better to setup a seperate file server using samba4 or windows server flavors. However, we will go on with setting up a file share on our active directory server for a small office network.
